TILL DEATH DO US PART. GOOD LUCK, BUDDY.

Let me start this off by saying my love language is strong, independent woman. Lol

However…

They say when you’re not looking, you end up finding “the one.”

Those assholes were right.

I met my husband in Las Vegas, right on the Strip. I was with my best friend, and we happened to sit next to him at a bar.

He had flown in from Minnesota that afternoon. Out of boredom.

After four hours of hanging out, eating, and drinking, it was, ahem, ME who gave him my number.

We went our separate ways, and I had absolutely no expectations of getting a text or a call.

The next day, I got a message asking me out to dinner. We ended up spending the night together.

Get your mind out of the gutter.

We made a deal: he wouldn’t rape and murder me, and I wouldn’t rob him.

Well, I’m still alive, but our bank account is joint now, so technically, I won that deal.

Anyway, the next day I dropped him off at the airport with a casual, “Well, I’ll let you know if I’m ever in Minnesota, and if you’re ever in Vegas, give me a call.”

Five hours later, I got a text asking if he could come back to Vegas the next day to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Apparently, he took “give me a call” as “move in immediately.”

Because after that weekend, he basically never went back to Minnesota unless he had to work in the office.

We spent weeks taking random trips all over Vegas, Utah, California, and Arizona. We’d get in the car and just go.

It didn’t matter where we ended up, as long as we were together and having fun.

We both had our fucked-up pasts, lol. And since we’re old, we knew what we wanted. There were no ifs, ands, or buts.

Now there are plenty of buts. But “yes, dear” and “please and thank you” go a long way.

I never really believed in fate, but in this case, I might have to give it some credit.

Because that January, I married the dude at the Little White Wedding Chapel.

The same guy I met at a bar in Vegas.

Apparently, what happens in Vegas sometimes becomes your husband and not an annulment.

Yeah, there are tiffs, arguments, and plenty of things we do that annoy the shit out of each other.

But finding someone who punches you in the arm when they see a slug bug, makes inappropriate jokes with you in places where you absolutely should not be joking, and loves you even when they can’t stand you?

That’s pretty damn special.

And finding someone who holds your hand when you have a seizure, makes sure you’re okay, and is still right there when the chaos settles?

That’s a winner in my book.

So, moral of the story: find yourself someone from the Midwest. Apparently, your odds of finding morals, values and politeness are better.

Or just sit next to a random guy at a bar in Vegas.

Worked for me.

Till death do us part. Good luck, buddy.
