On Your Mark, Get Set, Get the Hell Out of Here

I don’t want to start my first GO post with my latest trip. I want to tell you how I ended up where I am today—and why I am the way I am.

Hopefully, it gives you a little push to realize that YOU are capable of whatever the fuck you want to do.

Want to sit at home and binge Judge Judy? Do it. Want to work your ass off and take the trip of a lifetime? Do that, too. Want to find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? Whatever floats your boat.

I want you to do you.

I’ve traveled my entire life. I got my first passport at 10 years old and grew up taking family vacations. When I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 13, traveling was put on hold for a little while. But as time went on, we started again.

When I turned 19, I told my mom I wanted to go to Europe.

At the time, I was in college, and I was unhappy with it. I had absolutely no desire to pursue my career, but back in the day, the mentality was, “You always need something to fall back on if you don’t succeed at what you actually want to do.”

Joke’s on them, though. I won. LOL.

Anyway, my parents told me that if I paid my own way, I could go.

So I did.

That summer, I spent an entire month backpacking through Europe.

And I came home with an entirely new lease on life.

I saw how differently people lived. The food, the cultures, the lifestyles—everything. I fell in love with all of it.

Suddenly, the only thing on my mind was getting on another airplane and figuring out where I was going next.

Not a single day went by without me thinking about it. I thought about the friends I’d made across the world, the places I wanted to see again, and all the places I hadn’t discovered yet.

Since I turned 19, I’ve been to four continents and over 20 countries.

And let me tell you something: there are seven continents and 195 countries in the world.

That’s a whole lot of McDonald’s menus I haven’t tried yet.

Joking. Kind of.

My life revolves around seeing everything I possibly can. I want to experience different cultures, eat foods I’ve never heard of, meet people from all over the world, and keep collecting memories.

But life happens.

You need money to travel. You need money to live, eat, pay bills, and do all those everyday things that unfortunately come with being an adult.

And sometimes, that means you can’t just pack a bag and get on a plane whenever you feel like it.

But it doesn’t mean you stop wanting to go.

It doesn’t mean you stop making plans, saving money, dreaming about your next destination, or finding ways to enjoy the life you have right now.

For me, travel is a huge part of what makes me happy. For you, it might be something completely different.

Maybe it’s starting a business, raising a family, finding a new hobby, learning something new, or spending your weekends doing absolutely nothing.

Whatever it is, I want you to go after it.

This is my life, and these are my choices. I’ve told you mine—now tell me, what does your version of a good life look like?
